"How to Start Homeschooling Your Child?"

"Getting it All Done?"

...Have questions or doubts about Homeschooling?

From: Randall & Karen Webster
Date:

"Am I qualified to Homeschool? What curriculum do I use? What about the
law? It can be intimidating!"

FrustrationFreeHomeschool

We're the Websters and we've been homeschooling our children for over
11 years. We started when our first child was 3 years old, reading
bushels of books and going to curriculum fairs, etc.

We had tons of questions starting out too.
* What's the best curriculum?
* What are the state and school District requirements?
* How many hours do we need to school?
* How do I prove what my child has accomplished?
* How/where do we start?

All the choices. All the questions. It became overwhelming.

It basically boiled down to: Can we do this??

We Knew There Had To Be A Better Way!

As we searched out the best we could find for methods and curriculum,
we often wished there was a All-in-One Book. A how to manual that
gleaned the best of the best. One that had a checklist for all the
paperwork we needed to fill out, and which doctor's exams we needed
when, where to find good, affordable curriculum, etc...

We wanted one book that brought the best methods all together. One that
took the best ideas from here and there and brought them together in an
easy to follow format. A book that kept things simple and to the point.
One that focused on the objectives and didn't bog you down with
meaningless details.

We wanted examples to follow. Examples that we could use or modify if
we wanted. We wanted someone who had been there to take us by the hand
and lead us on.

"...not only a must read for every new homeschooler, but also for any
experienced homeschool mom who is experiencing burnout. It is a very
practical guide to providing your child with a complete education
without surrendering to packaged curricula."

Linda Redden, Experienced homeschool mom of 3...Montgomery,
Pennsylvania

There Were Huge Obstacles...

On top of all our questions, some of our relatives thought we were
nuts! They would politely interrogate us on our qualifications and
experience. Then they would say that our children would not be properly
socialized. They won't be able to go to a good college. They won't be
able to get a good job.

They pretty much told us that our kids would be flipping burgers all
their life and be social nerds.

We felt the pressure knowing that we had to:
* Learn about homeschooling, part time while working full time.
* Continue to raise two small children.
* Defend ourselves and our choices.
* Save face with our relatives and friends.
* Begin buying curriculum while staying in budget.
* ...and the Bottom Line - We must succeed. Our Children's lives are
in our hands.

No two people are exactly alike, but some things are just human nature.
You will experience some if not all of the same obstacles in your
homeschool journey, and you can bet that there will be more to come.
Life has a way of creating it's own hurdles.

But Things Began To Change...

We did NOT want to:
* Follow what the public schools do.
* Spend that much time "schooling".
* Socialize our children the way they're socialized in public school.

We especially did not want our children to despise school, us or God!
Things began to change when we realized that we were in control of our
children and their education. We began to relax and enjoy each other.
Our focus shifted from "school" to home. We realized that we did not
have to follow the public school's methods at all. They are designed
for classes of 20 - 30 students in a public place. We are a family
learning at home.
We determined the main things that our daughter needed to learn that
first year and focused on our whole family with those end goals in
mind. We experienced things together. We read, took walks and talked
about real life things. This was "school" and our kids didn't even know
that most of it was school!
They enjoyed it. They were excited and eager to learn more. It wasn't
perfect. They didn't get excited about everything, but it was so nice
to know that we didn't have to spend as much time there as they might
in public school. We could plan our lives....Ahh, freedom!

"...your book made a seemingly insurmountable task look doable and
enjoyable. Instead of feeling like I was imprisoned to a certain
textbook or curriculum I felt freed to help my girls enjoy creativity
while learning. It helped erase some of the anxiety from homeschooling.
It was easy to read and easy to follow. I really appreciated the
resources that you mentioned that have been of benefit to your family.
I also was grateful for your portrayal of homeschooling being a part of
family life, not just an hour or two at a certain time of day. [My
girls] and I have been enjoying our time. I am not officially
"homeschooling", but they really enjoy learning...so it has been fun.
Thank you..."

Ruth Dickey, Homeschool mom of 2...Boudinham, Maine

As things started to change, we began to share this freedom with our
friends and family. We were all encouraged and could help one another
with different aspects to homeschooling and family life. It helped us
all be more successful.

People began asking us questions about homeschooling. We loved helping
others out. We realized that many people travel similar paths and have
similar struggles. Many have appreciated what we shared with them. So
we thought there are probably many more families out there that could
benefit from this information.

We really want to help others alleviate the frustration!

thoughts and ideas in Randy and Karen Webster's new book titled,
Homeschool Roadmap K-4th, reflect their commitment to providing an
excellent early education, based on Christian principles, to their five
children. Together they share tips on making the journey
frustration-free.

Guided by the principles of Charlotte Mason (1842-1923), a British
educator who spent her life improving the quality of children's
education while fostering the idea that education is an atmosphere, a
discipline and a life, the Websters have laid out a comprehensive
handbook covering all aspects of an early education including legal
requirements, scheduling, how to teach multiple children, and choosing
resources and curriculum. They also offer specific how-to's by subject
including math, history, language arts and science, as well as art and
music.

Homeschool Roadmap K-4^th is a great resource for new homeschoolers,
and for those who have experience with home education and are looking
for some new, polished tools. This book will unquestionably be an
asset to your learning curriculum bookshelf.
